World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extended matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached 16.1 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance since 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
