19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a torrid period, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his initial title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from March of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to create a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a close final set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
